Toon ace Lovenkrands feels safe

The Magpies picked up another point in a 1-1 draw with Blackpool on

Saturday and now sit on 41 for the season. That tally sees them

occupying a top-half standing, seven points clear of the relegation

zone with four games remaining. While it is still mathematically

possible for Alan Pardew’s side to get dragged back into the

basement battle, there is a feeling around St James’ Park that they

will be alright. Lovenkrands buys into that belief, with his goal

against the Seasiders over the weekend having helped to edge the

Magpies closer to the safety mark. “Something has to go

unbelievably wrong now,” said the Danish forward. “To throw it

away, with the goal difference we have and the points tally we have

collected with just four games left, it would have to go really

wrong. “We need to finish the season well and get over that final

hurdle.” Newcastle boss Pardew also feels that his side can afford

to relax a little heading into their final fixtures. He said: “We

have 41 points and the results have gone our way. I think that is

us guaranteed now. “It will be difficult for those teams down at

the bottom to accumulate 41 points. But we want to win as many

games as we can. “Perhaps we can play with a bit more freedom at

Liverpool [on Sunday] and our energy levels will be up.”
