Tomasson earns win for Feyenoord

There was little to choose between the Eredivisie’s bottom club and

high-flyers Feyenoord, but after Tomasson struck the visitors took

control and deserved their victory, although they saw Denny

Landzaat sent off six minutes from time. The win moves Feyenoord to

within four points of third-placed Ajax, but leading pair PSV

Eindhoven and FC Twente remain out of sight. Georginio Wijnaldum

had a sight of goal for the visitors after 10 minutes when he was

played in by Diego Biseswar, but could not find the target from

inside the box. At the other end, Hans Mulder found Benjamin De

Ceulaer on the counter-attack, but the Belgian shot wide. The sides

exchanged pot-shots as Derk Boerrigter for RKC and Tomasson for

Feyenoord, after good work from Biseswar, failed to find the

target. The game turned three minutes into the second half.

Tomasson received the ball on the left-hand side of the penalty

area and sent a neat lob just under the RKC crossbar. After that it

was all Feyenoord. Andre Bahia’s free-kick just after the hour mark

found Ron Vlaar, who headed just the wrong side of the post. Karim

El Ahmadi then sent in a shot from 25 yards, but RKC keeper Ohad

Levita turned the ball out for a corner. After 72 minutes,

Charlison Benschop drew a good save from Rob Van Dijk from RKC’s

only decent chance of the second half. Landzaat, who had only been

on the pitch 15 minutes, saw red for a high tackle from behind on

Mulder, but RKC could not take advantage.
