Three Earthquakes players have surgery

Three members of the San Jose Earthquakes have undergone

surgery.

The Earthquakes said Friday that midfielder Andre Luiz had a

procedure on his left knee Wednesday to repair the medial

collateral ligament and a reconstruction of his posterior cruciate

ligament.

Defender Ike Opara on Thursday had surgery on his broken left

foot, which he injured July 31 against the Seattle Sounders FC.

Steven Beitashour underwent surgery Thursday to repair a fractured

right hand that he sustained at practice on Monday.

Luiz is out for the season after appearing in nine games, having

last played June 5 against FC Dallas. Opara and Beitashour had

their surgeries performed by Dr. Michael Oberlander at Sequoia

Surgical Pavilion in Walnut Creek.
