Swansea and Aston Villa draw 0-0 in Premier League
Swansea and Aston Villa played a subdued 0-0 draw at the Liberty
Stadium on Sunday in a Premier League game overshadowed by the
death of Wales manager Gary Speed.
The death of the 42-year-old Speed was confirmed before kickoff
and a minute’s silence was announced as the two sides lined up on
the field. The silence quickly gave way to a spontaneous round of
applause and chants in honor of Speed.
There were four members of the Wales squad involved in the game
as Ashley Williams, Neil Taylor, Joe Allen and James Collins
started for their respective clubs.
Villa goalkeeper Shay Given played with Speed at Newcastle and
was in tears.
The match was drab, with substitute Leroy Lita firing narrowly
wide with Swansea’s best chance.
