Genoa tumps Torino, approaches Europa League spot
GENOA, Italy — Genoa moved within striking distance of a Europa League spot with a 5-1 win over visiting Torino in Serie A on Monday.
Spanish winger Iago Falque put Genoa ahead in the 18th with his fifth goal in his last seven appearances.
After Morocco international Omar El Kaddouri equalized in the 61st, Argentine midfielder Tino Costa scored the winner in the 69th with a free kick that was deflected in by El Kaddouri.
Andrea Bertolacci then sealed it for Genoa with a goal in the 87th, and Leonardo Pavoletti and Costa added two more scores in injury time.
Genoa moved into seventh place, one point behind Sampdoria.
The sixth-place finisher qualifies for the third round of Europa League playoffs July 30 and Aug. 6.
Torino is ninth.
