SAfrica to replace Libya as 2013 African Cup host

The South African Football Association says it has an agreement

with Libya’s soccer federation to host the 2013 African Cup of

Nations in place of the troubled north African nation.

Libya’s staging of Africa’s top soccer championship has been in

doubt since the uprising against dictator Moammar Gadhafi.

SAFA says the signed agreement will see Libya stage the 2017 Cup

of Nations, which was awarded to South Africa.

SAFA adds the deal to swap tournaments must still be confirmed

by the continent’s ruling body, the Confederation of African

Football, at its next executive committee meeting in Cairo on Sept.

The agreement also covers the 2014 African Nations Cup, a

tournament for emerging players, which Libya is scheduled to
