Rovers confident over signings

Phil Jones’ departure to Manchester United last month is the only

major piece of transfer business Rovers have been involved in so

far this summer, while fellow defender Christopher Samba continues

to be linked with a move away. In terms of incoming personnel,

striker Benjani Mwaruwari has claimed he will return to Blackburn

for another season despite his contract expiring at the end of last

term, and reports have suggested Tottenham frontman Robbie Keane

could be a target. Venky’s chairperson Anuradha Desai has stressed

the strategy is not to chase “big names” but is confident some

deals will be tied up shortly. “We are in search of some good

strikers and defenders and that will be finalised in the next two

weeks,” said Desai, quoted in the Lancashire Telegraph. “We are not

running behind big names. Our selection would be a proper mix of

young talent and senior players.”
