Cristiano Ronaldo will miss Real's visit to Sociedad on Saturday.
Cristiano Ronaldo will miss Real Madrid’s visit to Real Sociedad on Saturday after leaving a UEFA Champions League game early because of left knee pain.
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti says he will rest Ronaldo, who is ”tired and little worn down,” after Wednesday’s 3-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund, when the FIFA player of the year came out in the 80th minute.
Real Madrid (23-4-4) is three points behind Atletico Madrid (24-3-4) and one behind defending champion Barcelona (24-4-3) with seven games left. The club later played down the scale of the injury, and Alonso revealed the Portuguese star is on course for a swift return.

"Cristiano did the right thing in coming off as a precaution," Alonso said. "On Thursday he trained normally with the team."
With Barcelona and Atletico both playing their respective games against Real Betis and Villarreal early in the day, Madrid could be six points off the summit by the time they face Real Sociedad on Saturday evening.
Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao both lost at the Anoeta Stadium earlier this year and Jagoba Arrasate’s men still harbour hopes of bridging the six-point gap that separates them and fourth-placed Athletic.
Sociedad received a boost going into the match after Xavi Prieto returned to training following an injury which ruled him out of last Sunday’s disappointing 1-1 draw at Osasuna.
Fellow midfielder Inigo Martinez says his teammates must respect Saturday’s star-studded opposition.
"It will be difficult. They have players who are very quick and can punish you," he told Real Sociedad’s website. We have to be attentive. They are a big team, but we are playing at home, where we have been strong this year and we will fight right up until the last minute."
