Relive the best Premier League goals of the 2015/16 season

Three hundred and eighty matches, 20 teams and one heck of a Premier League season.

Between Leicester City achieving the improbable with their first-ever top-flight title in the Foxes’ 132-year history and Aston Villa dropping down to the second tier for the first time in the modern Premier League era, the 2015/16 campaign will go down in the record books.

From a goals perspective, it didn’t disappoint either. A total of 1026 were turned in from August to May, an average of 2.7 per game and only second behind La Liga’s 1043. To commemorate the unforgettable year, the Premier League compiled 12 of the very best. From Matt Ritchie to Cuco Martina and Christian Benteke Dele Alli, enjoy:

In addition to the compilation, the league also conducted the Goal Cup, a knockout-style tournament that allowed supporters to have their say on social media. Among the eight contenders, you’ll notice many of the players shown in the video, except one…

As it turns out, Anthony Martial’s sublime goal against Stoke City back in February won out over Benteke’s stunning bicycle kick at Old Trafford.

Another reminder that Twitter is a powerful, powerful medium.
