Real Salt Lake trades Saborio to DC for Silva

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Real Salt Lake has traded forward Alvaro Saborio to D.C. United for midfielder Luis Silva.

Saborino leaves as RSL’s all-time leading scorer with 63 MLS goals and 79 in all matches. The 33-year-old is the second-leading scorer in the league since 2010.

Real Salt Lake technical director Craig Waibel said Thursday the ”time has come for us to evolve as a club and this trade is a great opportunity to add a talented player.”

The 26-year-old Silva was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft by Toronto FC. He had five goals and five assists as a rookie and was traded to the D.C. United during the 2013 season. Silva scored a career-high 11 goals in 2014.
