Is Randy Moss coming out of retirement? No, but he and the Charlotte Independence tried to pull one over with an April Fools joke ... on March 31?

Best of all, Moss is rocking the No. 84, which he made famous as a star wide receiver for the Minnesota Vikings nearly 20 years ago. It's not exactly a typical soccer number, but he's Randy Moss. It's what he should be wearing.

Playing in Charlotte made sense, too. His son, Thad, is going to be a freshman on the NC State football team in the fall.

And does he have any soccer skills? You be the judge.

Randy Moss ... soccer player? At 40 years old? Chad Ochocino got a trial with Sporting Kansas City a few years back so what would another former NFL receiver giving soccer a try be? But when the first letter of every sentence in the press release spells out "APRIL FOOLS," it's not to be.
