Portuguese League Roundup, Dec, 5

Braga needed a last-minute equalizer to draw 1-1 at Leixoes on Saturday, allowing FC Porto to make up ground on the Portuguese league leader following its win over Guimaraes.

Braga’s Alan da Costa hit the net in the final minute after Moises had put Leixoes ahead in the first half.

On Friday, Porto ended Guimaraes’ four-game winning streak with a 4-1 victory. Varela, Falcao, Bruno Alves and Cristian Rodriguez all scored for the defending champion.

On Saturday, Rio Ave drew 0-0 with Belenenses and Naval beat Pacos Ferreira 1-0.

Braga is top of the standings with 29 points, while Porto is joint second with Benfica on 26.

Benfica could draw level with Braga if it beats Academica on Sunday. Benfica has lost at home against Academica the last two seasons and will be without midfielder Javi Garcia for the game.

Maritimo plays Olhanense on Sunday. On Monday, it’s Leiria vs. Nacional and Setubal vs. Sporting Lisbon. Sporting is hoping to break a six-game winless streak that has left it seventh in the league.
