Porto, Sporting win big to stay top in Portugal

LISBON, Portugal (AP) FC Porto routed Belenenses 4-0 to keep the lead of the Portuguese league, while Sporting Lisbon also thrashed 10-man Guimaraes 5-1 to move into second place on Sunday.

Porto got second-half goals from Jesus Corona, Yacine Brahimi, Pablo Osvaldo and Ivan Marcano, after losing defender Maicon to an injury.

Sporting eased to its big win thanks to striker Islam Slimani’s hat trick of goals in the 12th, 58th and 78th minutes. Teofilo Gutierrez and Adrien Silva also scored for Sporting, while Josue Sa scored Guimaraes’ sole strike.

Guimaraes’ Bakary Sare earned a direct red card for a tackle on Gelson Martins in the 55th.

Benfica’s match at Uniao da Madeira was postponed due to heavy fog on the Atlantic island.
