As Newcastle and Brighton & Hove Albion battle it out for the Championship, neither will be likely to forget what happened on Tuesday.
With the Seagulls up 1-0 in the 80th minute, it looked like the hosts were on their way to at least a share of the points against Newcastle. Except the Magpies would get an equalizer in the most ridiculous fashion possible. Just watch this nonsense.
Imagine hitting a shot so poorly that it ricochets not only off of one teammate, but two. That’s what Christian Atsu managed to pull off. The shanked volley nicks off of Daryl Murphy before finding Mohamed Diamé’s plant foot. The wayward attempt then balloons up and over the powerless Brighton & Hove Albion defense to knot things up 1-1.
That might be the easiest, yet most difficult, goal Diamé has ever scored.
After that, the Rafa Benitez-led Magpies would actually wind up finding a winner. The result pushed the Toon to the top of the Championship table, while the Seagulls fell to second — left wondering how the heck they conceded that first goal.
