Moses keen to excel for Latics

At 19, his idea of fun is to race down the wing, terrify his

opponent and either grab a goal or set up a chance. Moses did just

that on when he scored the winner in Saturday’s 1-0 Premier League

victory against West Brom at the DW Stadium. It was the first

league goal of the season for the England Under-21 international,

who arrived at the end of the January transfer window in a

£2.5million move from Crystal Palace. Moses lit up up the game

with his surging runs after coming on in the second half and must

be in with a chance of starting against Manchester United on

Saturday at Old Trafford. You get the impression Moses would not be

fazed as he also did well in the draw with Liverpool in midweek. He

said: “It is up to the manager (Roberto Martinez). I am just keen

to play football and enjoy myself. That is the best thing. “I want

to get at the full-back as soon as I get the ball, threaten him and

make him nervous. It is important to create chances for the team

and go forward all the time. “There are a lot of games to come and

I am just keen to keep learning and improving.” Moses’ vital goal

came in the 70th minute when he steered the ball beyond goalkeeper

Scott Carson and into the corner of the net after being set up by

Charles N’Zogbia. Wigan’s first win in six league games took them

out of the bottom three and Martinez praised Moses for his

contribution. Martinez said: “We wanted to stretch the game and

that is why I sent him on. He has the ability and is in a great

moment. “He came on against Liverpool and did well on Wednesday. I

am not just using him as an impact player. “He had a couple of

injuries and has had to bide his time. He is still adapting to the

Premier League. “Victor is a very mature player and is ready to

help the team. He is a raw talent. ”
