Mexico beats beats Uruguay to claim U-17 World Cup
Mexico won the Under-17 World Cup title Sunday, defeating
Uruguay 2-0 on goals from Antonio Briseno in the 31st minute and
Giovani Casillas in second-half stoppage time.
The victory thrilled a boisterous crowd at Atzec Stadium in
Mexico City, which is getting used to soccer success. Two weeks ago
the Mexico’s senior team won the Gold Cup – the regional
championship – defeating the United States 4-2 in the final.
Mexico also won the Under-17 world title in 2005.
Germany defeated Brazil 4-3 for third place.
