Lambert to protect Pilkington

Winger Pilkington came off the bench for the final 19 minutes of

the Canaries’ pre-season friendly against Real Zaragoza on

Wednesday night after almost five months on the sidelines. The

23-year-old dislocated his left ankle and suffered a broken fibula

in what turned out to be his final game for Huddersfield in March,

an injury that left some of his team-mates in tears. Lambert hailed

Pilkington for “lifting” Norwich in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw, adding:

“He looked very good when he came on and that’s a big bonus for us,

him coming back. “He’s worked really hard with the fitness lads

here. “I can’t rush him back after the injury he had but he’s doing

very, very well at the minute.” Meanwhile, Lambert has adopted a

“wait and see” policy over injuries suffered by Andrew Crofts and

Chris Martin. Midfielder Crofts and striker Martin missed Wednesday

night’s game. Lambert said: “Crofty’s got an ankle knock from the

Coventry game and Chris had a little problem with his hamstring.

“But we’ll have to wait and see how they are.”
