Jurgen Klinsmann gushes over Christian Pulisic’s ‘limitless’ potential

U.S. men's national team fans have been high on Christian Pulisic since he received the call up to Borussia Dortmund's senior side last winter. His career trajectory has only gone upward since, and his inclusion in the senior national team side was just a matter of time.

It's tough to temper the expectations for the 18-year-old, especially when one of the most restrained managers when it comes to praise starts with the plaudits. In an interview with FIFA.com, U.S. manager Jurgen Klinsmann hailed his young winger's talent level.

“This player’s potential is limitless,” Klinsmann said.

“I’ve always said, you need to write your own story and he’s doing it right now. I think it’s rare in America for a player to be so developed at such an early age, but in Europe if you’re good enough, you’re old enough.”

The U.S. manager's faith in Pulisic has paid early dividends. He scored as a late substitute for the U.S. in Copa America Centenario in May. In the last World Cup qualifying cycle in September, the youngster notched a brace and an assist in a 6-0 of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. That performance earned him a start against Trinidad and Tobago the following match.

At that time, Klinsmann was more measured in his assessment of Pulisic.

“… It’s important that we build him with patience, with not too much hype and expectation either,” Klinsmann said. “We are thrilled that he’s growing and that he’s getting more mature. We’ll take it one step at a time.”

Based on his more recent comments, it looks like Klinsmann in firmly on board the hype train. Seeing how Pulisic has performed in both the Bundesliga and Champions League for Dortmund since the last international break, it's easy to see why.
