Jadue takes over as Chilean federation president

Sergio Jadue has taken over as president of the Chilean football

association and says he will ”make every effort necessary” to

retain popular national team coach Marcelo Bielsa.

Jadue took office Friday and was immediately confronted by

questions over the future of Bielsa, who said he would quit after

Spanish businessman Jorge Segovia was elected as president in

November.

Jadue says he planned to call Bielsa after the friendly against

the United States on Jan. 22 in Los Angeles

Segovia’s victory was later annulled, filling most Chileans with

hope that the Argentina-born Bielsa would decide to stay.

Bielsa led Chile to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the

country’s first appearance since 1998.
