Inter bags fourth successive win
Inter Milan kept in touch with Serie A leaders Juventus with a 2-0 victory at home to Catania.
Antonio Cassano converted from close range to put the hosts in front in the 28th minute and Rodrigo Palacio made the points safe five minutes from time.
The win moved the Nerazzurri back to within four points of Juventus and just one behind second-placed Napoli.
The visitors were the first to threaten as Sergio Almiron fired narrowly past the wrong side of the right post from inside the area.
Giovanni Marchese then went close with a long-range effort as Inter continued to find themselves under pressure.
But they took the lead shortly before the half-hour mark when Esteban Cambiasso crossed for Cassano, who finished with a low shot under goalkeeper Mariano Andujar.
Inter started the second half strongly and Cassano made his way into the area before setting up Palacio, who just failed to add the finishing touch.
Cambiasso then set up Diego Milito, whose shot was headed for the right corner but was saved by Andujar.
The visitors continued to pose a threat themselves, though, Almiron creating a shooting chance and firing just wide.
They had a let-off in the 76th minute, though, as Ricardo Alvarez found himself one-on-one with Andujar, but kept hold of the ball too long and the defence got back to clear.
Alvarez did get his shot away minutes later, but Andujar was equal to it.
The hosts did finally put the game to bed in the 85th minute, though, Milito
feeding Palacio, who controlled the ball on his chest before shooting into the
bottom right corner.
