Hodgson not surprised by Black Cats

Fulham boss Roy Hodgson is not surprised to see Sunderland in the top half of the Premier League after their investment over the summer.

Black Cats manager Steve Bruce, who takes his side to Craven Cottage on Sunday, has invested in the likes of Darren Bent, Lee Cattermole and Lorik Cana and they have already taken points off Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal.

“There has to be some so-called surprise packages in the top half because there aren’t enough top-four teams to go around,” said Hodgson.

“There are still six places to fill in the top 10 and some of those will be so-called surprise packages.

“I would have thought at the moment, with the investment made at the start of the season and the quality of the players they brought, I don’t think too many of us will be surprised to see them in the top half of the table. That is where they will be aiming for.”
