Hleb and co make Blues squad cut

Premier League clubs were required to select which players they

wish to use in the first half of the season by 5pm on Wednesday.

They were free to name up to 25 senior professionals, but at least

eight of those had to adhere to ‘home-grown’ criteria. Birmingham

boss Alex McLeish has made his choices, with the Blues now hoping

to repeat their heroics from last term. Among those to make the cut

are fresh faces Hleb, Ben Foster, Nikola Zigic, Matt Derbyshire and

Martin Jiranek. There are also places for experienced heads such as

Kevin Phillips, Maik Taylor, Barry Ferguson and Lee Bowyer.
