Higginbotham feels for Jewell

Danny Higginbotham believes underperforming Ipswich Town players

are to blame for an alarming dip, not boss Paul Jewell.

Jewell has fallen under ever-increasing pressure in recent

weeks, with a nine-match winless run dropping Ipswich to second

from bottom in the Championship table.

A 2-1 defeat at Hull City on Saturday saw the club’s struggles

continue, leaving Jewell contemplating his future.

Higginbotham, though, says it is those sent out onto the field

who must start shouldering responsibility for a run of

disappointing results.

The defender, on loan at Portman Road from Stoke City, feels the

Ipswich squad have let their manager down and need to pull together

through a tough spell.

“I feel sorry for him because he puts us on the pitch,”

Higginbotham said of Jewell.

“He does his best but there comes a time when the manager has to

transfer responsibility to the players.

“Paul Jewell was one of the main reasons I came here and I’ve

got nothing but respect for him.”
