Harry Redknapp considering January deal for Toronto’s Jermain Defoe
Manager Harry Redknapp says QPR might make a second attempt to sign forward Jermain Defoe from FC Toronto in January.
However, Redknapp has denied that the London club have already agreed a deal to sign the 32-year-old forward.
Defoe has worked under Redknapp previously at Tottenham and Portsmouth, and QPR came close to signing the England international before the summer transfer window closed.
It has been reported that Defoe will sign a three-year contract with QPR in January but Redknapp says that no such agreement is in place.
"No, I don’t think anything is anywhere near being concluded with Jermain," he said.
"We tried to get Jermain before the deadline, but I don’t think there is any movement on that one at the moment.
"I am a fan of Jermain’s, I have signed him enough times!
"He is a goalscorer and obviously a player you would like at your club, if possible, but the figures would have to be right.
"I have not spoken to Tony (Fernandes, QPR chairman) about that yet."
Redknapp did concede that talks with Toronto in the New Year are a possibility.
"He is a player I am sure we would be interested in, in January," he said.
"It depends on the expense of it all and what the deal is. Tony would deal with that, so it’s up to him."
