Greenpeace protests at 2 more Champs League games

Greenpeace says it succeeded with two more protests Wednesday at

Champions League matches against competition sponsor Gazprom.

At Austria Vienna vs. Zenit St. Petersburg, environmental

activists dressed as cheerleaders entered the pitch with players

and held banners protesting the Russian company’s oil drilling

operations in the Arctic Ocean.

At Napoli vs. Arsenal, activists abseiled from the stadium roof

at half time to unfurl a banner supporting an Italian campaigner

who was among 30 people detained by Russian authorities in

September when a Greenpeace ship was seized.

On Monday, an anti-Gazprom banner was revealed during a Real

Madrid news conference ahead of its match at Copenhagen.

The latest protests did not stop a Champions League match, which

Greenpeace achieved in September by abseiling from the stadium roof

during Basel vs. Schalke.
