Fulham frustration for Hughes

The Cottagers know that, with their game against Liverpool on

Saturday having fallen foul of the weather, they will spend

Christmas in relegation trouble. Only goal difference is currently

keeping their head above water, with just two wins taken from their

17 games to date. That record would suggest that they have

struggled at times this season, but Hughes insists that is not the

case. He believes fortune has been against his side this term, with

their lowly standing a false representation of their efforts.

“We’re fully aware of where we are and it’s a real frustration for

us,” said Hughes. “I think we’re using that frustration of not

having many points as we should have done. “I don’t think there is

any danger of us thinking, ‘We’re okay because we are playing

well’. We’re really conscious of the fact that you have to get

points on the board. That’s what we’ll do.” Part of the problem for

Fulham this season has been their lack of goals, with just 16

scored so far. Hughes admits that is an issue he is keen to

address, with a new forward featuring prominently on his January

shopping list. “We have to look at our needs and at the moment our

needs are pretty much there for everyone to see,” he said. “We need

a little bit of help at the top end.”
