Koscielny cleared to play in France’s WCup opener

French defender Laurent Koscielny has been cleared to play in

his nation’s World Cup opener after FIFA set his suspension at one

game for a red card.

Koscielny was ejected in injury time of Les Bleus’ 2-0 loss at

Ukraine last month after pushing Oleksandr Kucher in the face and

knocking him down.

FIFA said Monday its disciplinary committee decided against a

longer suspension than the automatic one-match ban. Koscielny

served the penalty in the second leg, which France won 3-0 to

qualify on 3-2 aggregate.
