France door open for Anelka

The frontman appeared to have played his last game for Les Bleus

over the summer when he was sent home from the 2010 World Cup. A

dressing room bust-up with then coach Raymond Domenech was reported

to have led to his removal from a squad already split by internal

rifts. Anelka later revealed that he had been planning to call time

on his international commitments anyway, suggesting he was happy to

finish his career on 69 caps. However, national assistant

Boghossian insists the 31-year-old could be welcomed back if he

makes himself available. Current boss Laurent Blanc has no issue

with the experienced frontman and may be prepared to offer him a

surprise recall should he wish to be considered. “The door to the

French team is open to everyone,” said Boghossian. “Anelka? We are

monitoring his performances. I saw him during the Chelsea versus

Marseille game and Chelsea against Sunderland. “No-one is banned.

However, he may have banned himself. We can’t keep talking about

absent players though, we have to move on.”
