Southampton charged with misconduct

The English Football Association has charged Southampton with misconduct for failing to control its players at Norwich after a penalty was awarded in their Premier League match.

Southampton players complained to referee Mark Clattenburg after Luke Shaw’s challenge on Grant Holt led to Norwich being awarded the spot kick in stoppage time on Saturday at Carrow Road.

Southampton goalkeeper Artur Boruc dived the right way to keep out Holt’s effort and ensure a 0-0 draw.

After the final whistle, Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino went onto the pitch to confront Clattenburg and his officials.

The FA says Southampton has until Friday to respond to the charge.
