Late de Jong equalizer keeps Twente top

Luuk de Jong struck three minutes from time to earn FC Twente a

1-1 draw against Ajax that keeps them on top of the Eredivisie

table.

Miralem Sulejmani’s 10th-minute goal looked to have given the

hosts a win in the most-anticipated fixture of the season so far –

a result that would have seen them leapfrog the Enschede side and

hit the summit.

But De Jong had other ideas, heading in a Peter Wisgerhof cross

to net a point for his side.

Earlier on Saturday evening, PSV Eindhoven fired a warning to

their title rivals by putting 10-man Roda JC to the sword with a

7-1 victory at Philips Stadion.

Dries Mertens was Roda’s tormentor-in-chief with four goals,

while Ola Toivonen, Kevin Strootman and Tim Matavz were also on

target in a hopelessly one-sided affair.

Roda never recovered from the 19th-minute dismissal of Jagos

Vukovic with the score at 1-0, and Sanharib Malki’s 55th-minute

reply came as scant consolation.

Goals by Oussama Assaidi and Samuel Armenteros ensured the game

between Heerenveen and Heracles ended in a 1-1 draw.

Assaidi put the hosts ahead on the half-hour before Armenteros

equalised with 18 minutes remaining in a game of few clear-cut

chances.

Kees Luyckx scored a last-gasp winner as NAC Breda beat 10-man

FC Utrecht 1-0 to record their second league win of the season.

Visitors Utrecht lost Michael Zullo to a second yellow card just

before the break but, despite playing over half the match with a

man less, they looked set to escape with a point.

However, that was until Luyckx popped up in stoppage time to net

the winning goal with the final kick of the match.

ADO Den Haag released the pressure after their poor start to the

season with a comfortable 2-0 win over VVV Venlo.

First-half strikes by John Verhoek and Gabor Horvath gave the

home side a comfortable lead which VVV never looked likely to

overturn.

The visitors’ best chance came in the 61st minute, but smart

goalkeeping by Gino Coutinho ensured ADO’s second league win of the

season.
