Fourth tier English player jailed for four years for robbery, assault

SWINDON, England —

An English soccer player has been sent to jail for four years and four months for robbery and assault.

Chris Zebroski, a 28-year-old striker for Newport County in England’s fourth tier, was sentenced on Friday at a court in Swindon, England, after admitting to four charges of robbery, attempted robbery and assault.

Newport has terminated Zebroski’s contract, saying the club does ”not condone any of the actions for which Zebroski has been found guilty” and has been ”left with no other option.”

Zebroski’s last game for Newport was on Tuesday.
