England to play Egypt in World Cup warmup

England will prepare for its World Cup opener against the United

States by playing Egypt in an exhibition game at Wembley on March

3.

England faces Algeria, which lost to Egypt in a playoff, in

its second first-round match on June 18, six days after it meets

the Americans.

England has played Egypt twice, winning a 1986 exhibition in

Cairo and a World Cup first-round match four years later in Italy.

The United States is at the Netherlands on March 3, the only

date clubs are required to release players before the end of the

European seasons in May.

The Americans also have a Jan. 23 exhibition against Honduras

at Carson, Calif., and are attempting arrange a February match

against Mexico.
