PSV Eindhoven’s lead in the Dutch league was cut to a single point

on Sunday after it had to settle for a late 1-1 draw with Sparta

Rotterdam as title rival FC Twente beat Willem II 1-0.

Rydell Poepon scored an injury-time equalizer to earn

six-time champion Sparta a point after Otman Bakkal had given PSV

the lead in the 14th minute.

Peter Wisgerhof scored Twente’s winner in the 54th minute to

give his side an important victory.

With 10 rounds to go, PSV tops the 18-team league with 62

points, Steve McClaren’s Twente has 61 and Ajax has 55 after it

hammered Vitesse Arnhem 4-0.

Two Champions League berths are up for grabs for the top two

clubs, while teams finishing from third to ninth will fight for

Europa League places.

Luis Suarez led the rout at the Amsterdam Arena, setting up

Siem de Jong for the opening goal in the 18th minute before adding

another off a rebound, three minutes later.

Vitesse’s Paul Verhaegh scored an own goal in the 27th minute

to extend Ajax’s lead before De Jong made it 4-0 in the 58th.

Earlier Sunday, ADO The Hague held Feyenoord to a 2-2 draw.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who doubles as captain for Feyenoord and

the Dutch national team, diverted Karim Soltani’s cross into his

own net after 10 minutes to put ADO in front.

Midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum equalized in the 23rd minute

after he was played in by Leroy Fer.

Denmark striker Jon Dahl Tomasson scored off a rebound in the

76th as Feyenoord took lead but Danny Buijs snatched a late

equalizer for ADO, steering the ball home after Robert Zwinkels had

flicked the ball goalwards.
