David Moyes was left “disappointed” by another defeat for Real Sociedad which has reportedly left his role as manager in significant doubt.

La Real have opened their La Liga campaign with two draws and two back-to-back defeats under Moyes this season, culminating in the 3-2 loss against Espanyol – a side which they finished seven places higher than last season – on Sunday.

Such an inauspicious start is sure to place pressure on the former Everton and Manchester United manager, who linked up with the Spanish side last November and impressed last season.

The start to this campaign has left his role as manager in doubt however, according to the Daily Mirror, who report that the Scot “is understood to be in danger”. Sociedad are joint-bottom of the table after four games, with a favorable goal difference sparing them a spot in the relegation zone.

Speaking after the defeat to Espanyol, Moyes bemoaned “bad luck” and insisted his side “deserved the draw”.

“I am disappointed with the result of the game,” he said. “It has not been a good night, we deserved the draw, we’ve worked hard with ten men for the equalizer but we’ve lost in the last minute.

Sociedad took the lead early on before Espanyol responded with two goals in either half, with Sociedad goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli dismissed in the first half. Moyes’ side managed to equalize late on, but then conceded in the final minute of stoppage time in the second half with substitute keeper Oier Olazabal at fault.

“All the players are covered and another player goes around the back of the area, that’s the moment when you need your keeper to make a stop and grab the ball,” Moyes said.

“In the first half we showed lots of good things, but we had bad luck,” he added.

Granada are next up for Moyes’ men in midweek, while a Basque derby with Athletic Bilbao awaits next Sunday.
