Dickov laments first-half no-show
Lucas Akins’ first-half penalty settled matters, with a header
from Latics centre-half James Tarkowski falling short of goalkeeper
Alex Cisak, who brought down Marcus Haber.
Oldham, who were booed from the field by their spectators for
the second successive match, have collected only one point from
their first three matches.
“Probably the only positive was that we went out and had a go in
the second half,” said Dickov. “The players should have a go in
every game from the first whistle, but in the first half we were
too slow on the ball, we didn’t stretch Stevenage and didn’t get
the ball to Robbie Simpson up front.”
Dickov was less than impressed with the defensive error which
led to his side conceding the matchwinning spot-kick.
But the Latics boss was also unhappy with the officiating,
adding: “I thought there were two definite stonewall penalties for
fouls on Matt Smith and Robbie Simpson.”
