Devils start well in League One
Newly promoted Crawley moved to the top of npower League One
thanks to a 3-0 win over 10-man Scunthorpe.
Gary Alexander scored a goal in each half, including one from
the penalty spot, before Jonathan Forte headed the third with 10
minutes remaining to seal a comfortable win in their first match of
Scunthorpe midfielder Mark Duffy was sent off in the 85th minute
for a second bookable offence but Crawley had already wrapped up
Doncaster, who were relegated from the Championship last term,
kicked off their campaign with 3-0 win away at Walsall.
Chris Brown opened the scoring in the fifth minute before David
Cotterill’s 35-yard strike and Kyle Bennett’s long-range effort
sealed the win.
Notts County won their first fixture when they beat Crewe 2-1 at
the Alexandra Stadium despite being reduced to 10 men.
Francois Zoko and Yoann Arquin scored for the visitors before
the latter saw red for violent conduct in the 60th minute.
Mathias Pogba pulled one back for Crewe but it was not enough
salvage any points from the game.
Milton Keynes Dons beat Oldham 2-0 as they were also reduced to
10 men late in the game.
Darren Potter opened the scoring in the 34th minute before
Daniel Powell added the second after the break, with Antony Kay’s
dismissal deep into injury time not enough to derail the
Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro scored twice as Tranmere beat Leyton
Orient 3-1 at Prenton Park.
The French-born Ivorian followed up Zoumana Bakayogo’s
34th-minute strike with two goals in the second half to seal the
win, with Michael Symes’ late penalty for the Os scant
Meanwhile, Portsmouth were held to a 1-1 draw at Fratton Park by
Izale McLeod fired the home side’s goal from 30 yards in the
19th minute but Lee Barnard cancelled it out midway through the
second half as the south coast sides shared the points.
Sheffield United held on to an early lead to claim a 1-0 win
Midfielder David McAllister put the Blades ahead in the fourth
minute and they held on despite a late period of dominance by the
Stevenage and Carlisle drew 1-1 after Matt Robson’s goal for the
visitors was cancelled out by Robin Shroot’s equaliser two minutes
from full time while Yeovil and Coventry also drew 1-1 when the
Glovers’ Richard Hinds cancelled out Cody McDonald’s 10th-minute
Elsewhere, Bury drew 0-0 against Brentford, Preston played out a
goalless draw against Colchester and Swindon tied 0-0 with
Hartlepool after Tommy Miller missed a 72nd-minute penalty.
