Denmark great Simonsen signs with small club

A Danish first-division club says it has signed Denmark football

great Allan Simonsen to streamline the team’s coaching system.

FC Fredericia says the 58-year-old former international has

signed a two-year contract to help the coaching throughout the

club.

Simonsen, a former player with Borussia Moenchengladbach,

Barcelona and Charlton Athletic, has coached the Faeroe Islands and

Luxembourg, and Danish club Vejle.

Europe’s player of the year in 1977, Simonsen played 55 matches

for Denmark from 1972 to 1986, scoring 20 times.

Fredericia ended sixth in Denmark’s 16-team first division last

season.
