Dean downbeat after defeat

Crawley brabbed a fortuitous winner three minutes from time when

a shot from Josh Simpson deflected off the boot of Nicky Ajose on

its way into the net.

Saunders said: “I thought they looked happy with a point and we

certainly didn’t deserve to lose. They got a lucky break with the

goal, but we have to roll our sleeves up and just get on with

it.

“It was a scrappy game and we will get a lot of matches like

this in League One. We had chances in the first half, but they

didn’t go in and we struggled to string our passes together as well

as we have been doing at times.”

Saunders, who has struggled to strengthen his squad because of

budget restrictions, added: “I thought a few of our players looked

a bit jaded. One or two were struggling with knocks before the

start, but we had to put them in.

“We’ve not been able to bring more players in and that will

catch up with us eventually – maybe it did a bit – but hopefully

things might happen before the deadline.”
