Czechs to play footy tournament in Japan in June

The Czech Republic will travel to Japan to play in the Kirin Cup

after receiving an assurance that the post-earthquake nuclear

crisis there poses no risk for players.

The Czech Republic will face Peru on June 4 in Matsumoto before

meeting Japan on June 7 in Yokohama.

Team manager Vladimir Smicer says on Tuesday that after

consulting Czech and Japanese authorities ”there’s no reason to

withdraw from the tournament.”

Dana Drabova, the head of the State Office for Nuclear Safety,

says the radiation-spewing Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant is

located too far from the venues – about 280 kilometers (175 miles)

– to pose a threat.
