Colombia’s Falcao is recovering well from injury, some way off fitness

Falcao is a doubt for the World Cup with a knee injury.

Radamel Falcao’s recovery from a knee injury is going well but he is some way short of full fitness, according to his father.

Monaco’s Colombian striker damaged cruciate ligaments in January, but he has been included in his country’s provisional 30-man squad for the World Cup in Brazil next month.

The 28-year-old joined the French club from Atletico Madrid for a reported fee of £50million in May 2013, and had scored nine goals in 17 outings prior to his injury.

Falcao damaged his knee in a Coupe de France tie against fourth-tier Monts d’Or Azergues.

"Clinically he is very well, but when it comes to football he isn’t yet because he is still getting his physical qualities back," his father Radamel Garcia, told RCN Radio. "We have to wait to see what happens.

"He is about 60% recovered, but what he lacks is endurance, strength, speed and coordination – fundamental things for a high-performance football player."
