“I know what I am capable of and I need to get back to that level and I am not far off,” he told Sky Sports News.
“I have had some good games, I have had some poor games – but that is understandable after coming back from a long-term injury. But one thing for sure is that I will fight tooth and nail to get back into the team because that is where I was before.”
Cole admits he has not had any contact with Capello, but he did not expect any.
“He is England manager and is concerned about winning games for England, I have been injured and so that is the relationship and that is fine with me,” said Cole.
“If you are playing well you get into squads and that is the best thing as a team and a squad.
“You want to know that if you are doing the business on the pitch you are going to get in, it is in your hands then. He (Capello) has done a great job and I am looking to be part of it.”
