Chandler to miss Mexico game, replaced by Loyd
Timmy Chandler will miss the U.S. game against Mexico next week
with a knee injury, and Dallas defender Zach Loyd is taking his
spot on the soccer roster.
Chandler was impressive in his U.S. debut in March against
Argentina, and Juergen Klinsmann included the German-born defender
on the roster for his first game as U.S. coach. But Nuremberg coach
Dieter Hecking said Thursday that Chandler had twisted his knee
during training, and was questionable for the team’s Bundesliga
opener against Hertha Berlin on Saturday.
Loyd has played in 21 games this season, scoring once and adding
two assists. His only appearance for the U.S. was Jan. 22 against
Chile, when he started and played 72 minutes in a 1-1 draw.
The U.S. plays Mexico on Wednesday in Philadelphia.
