Cech: Hot Drog can beat personal best
Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech is backing Blues striker Didier Drogba to beat his personal best tally of 33 goals in a season.
Drogba’s latest double strike earned a 2-0 win at Wolves and helped Carlo Ancelotti’s side move four points clear at the top of the Premier League.
He has been in prime form since returning from the African Nations Cup and ensured the Blues took advantage of Manchester United’s 3-1 reversal at Everton on Saturday lunchtime.
Cech said: "Didier has been brilliant all season. He can beat that 33 goal record. You can see he is in form. He is fit and he is confident.
"If he stays fit, I am sure he will get more goals. It’s always difficult to say if anyone is in the best form of their career.
"Sometimes, if a striker is not scoring as many goals, they can still be in good form.
"But Didier has been brilliant for us for many years. He has always been on top. He has always been brilliant for Chelsea.
"He is one of the best strikers in the world and he just keeps doing the same things."
Cech had to pull off several fine saves early in the second half before Drogba raced onto his long clearance to score the decisive second goal.
He said: "Wolves had their chances, they didn’t take them and we killed them off.
"There were times when they would have felt they could have got something out of the game and, at just the right times, we scored our goals."
Ancelotti knows the title race is far from over despite his side’s current advantage and is aware his players have to be switched on for every game.
He said: "We have to stay quiet and stay calm because there are a lot of games left.
"Four points in front is a good situation but we have to know the race for the title is long and we have to pay attention every game.
"But we had the chance to improve our position after Manchester United lost at Everton and we seized it even though we didn’t play that well."
