Cattermole doubtful for Clarets date
The 22-year-old damaged a calf in last weekend’s 1-0 defeat at West
Ham, the latest in a depressing catalogue of injuries which has
interrupted his first season at the Stadium of Light. Manager Steve
Bruce will assess the former Middlesbrough and Wigan player before
finalising his team, but will not risk him if he is not fully fit.
Bruce told the club’s official website, www.safc.com: “Lee picked
up a calf injury against West Ham and wasn’t sure whether it was a
kick or a strain. “He hasn’t trained all week. We will see how he
is, but with the season nearly finished, the last thing I’m going
to do is throw him in if he isn’t ready.” However, John Mensah, who
has missed the last three games with a hamstring problem, and
skipper Lorik Cana, who has sat out the last two with a groin
injury, could return after resuming training today.
