Bulgarian referee banned until end of season

The Bulgarian football union has banned a referee until the end

of the season for erroneously disallowing a goal in the Bulgarian

Cup quarterfinals.

The union says that its referees’ commission has taken Ahmed

Ahmed off the list until the end of the season for unsatisfactory

performance during the match between Levski Sofia and Litex Lovech

on March 13. Levski won 1-0.

The commission also banned linesman Georgi Kovachev for 15

matches for his ”inadequate decisions” during the game.

The ruling followed protests by Litex, coached by former

Bulgarian great Hristo Stoitchkov, over the referee’s decision to

disallow an equalizing goal in injury time.
