British broadcaster ITV sorry for missing goal

British broadcaster ITV is apologizing to fans for missing the

first goal of the England vs. United States World Cup match.

Fans watching the channel’s high definition HD service on

Saturday say the coverage suddenly switched to an advert with the

game at 0-0.

It returned with the score at 1-0 to England after Steven

Gerrard scored in the fourth minute, England’s first goal of the

tournament. The match ended 1-1.

ITV1 presenter Adrian Chiles also apologised at halftime,

telling viewers “I believe there was some interruption in your

coverage.”

ITV last year missed Everton’s winning goal against Liverpool

during an FA Cup tie. It apologized at the time for the

“inexcusable glitch.”
