Dortmund and Legia Warsaw break record for most goals in a Champions League game

One could be forgiven for skipping past Borussia Dortmund-Legia Warsaw. If you thought it was going to be a routine victory for Dortmund, you were half right. The hosts won. But it was anything but routine. It was record-breaking and it was spectacular.

First, they made history by scoring five goals in the first 25 minutes.

They weren't even close to being finished after that though, as the half ended 5-2, equaling a Champions League record for most goals in a half.

The second half rolled around, and maybe you thought the two teams would find some chill?

Wrong.

Marco Reus scored two second-half goals to complete his hat-trick, Felix Passlack got himself on the scoresheet, and Legia's Michał Kucharczyk and Nemanja Nicolic both did their best to make it respectable for the visitors.

The match ended 8-4, breaking Monaco and Deportivo's record set when they played out a wild 8-3 match in 2003.

That's the highest goal total in the Champions League era, and the most goals scored in European Cup/Champions League since Feyenoord beat KR Reykjavik 12–2 in the first round in 1969–70.

Not a bad day if you like goals.
