Austria coach Dietmar Constantini steps down early

Dietmar Constantini has stepped down immediately as coach of

Austria’s national team, one week after agreeing to leave at the

end of the year.

Austria football federation president Leo Windtner says sports

director Willi Ruttensteiner will take charge for the European

Championship qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan next

month.

Austria is out of contention to reach the Euro 2012 finals and

lost 6-2 to Germany this month.

Constantini was hired in April 2009 and won just seven of 23

matches as coach.

Windtner thanked the 56-year-old Constantini for his work and

praised him for developing young players for the national team.
