Russia names squad for Euro 2012 qualifier

Russia coach Dick Advocaat named a 20-man squad Friday for the

team’s European Championship qualifier against Armenia and a

friendly against Qatar later this month.

Russia will travel to Armenia on March 26 and play Qatar in Doha

three days later.

Advocaat made two changes to the squad that lost to Iran 1-0 in

a friendly last month. Midfielder Alexei Ionov replaced injured

Zenit St. Petersburg teammate Vladimir Bystrov, and Chelsea

midfielder Yuri Zhirkov takes the place of CSKA Moscow player Pavel

Mamayev.

Russia leads Group B with nine points from four games. Ireland,

Armenia and Slovakia are tied for second, two points behind.
