Adam: Squad welcome Fletcher

Scotland midfielder Charlie Adam has rejected suggestions that

Steven Fletcher’s return to the squad could cause friction in the

dressing room.

The Sunderland forward has been brought back into the fold by

manager Craig Levein ahead of Friday’s crucial World Cup qualifier

against Wales with the nation struggling for goals.

Fletcher has not featured for his country since informing the

SFA he did not wish to be selected for a fixture against Northern

Ireland in February 2011.

But he has since settled his differences with Levein and Adam

believes that everyone is pulling in the same direction as they

look to get their qualification campaign back on track.

The Stoke player said: “You want your best players available. He

is one of our best players and it is good to see him back

involved.

“What happened has happened, it’s done and dusted. Let’s move

on. It’s up to the manager if he plays but for us, it’s good to

have him in the squad because he adds to the quality that we

already have.

“Whoever plays up front, as a pair or on their own, they will be

trying to do the best for their country.

“We are all in the same boat – we want to get to Brazil and

hopefully the quality that has come into the squad for these two

games can enhance our chances.”
